The University of West Alabama will honor a record number of nearly 1,000 graduates during fall commencement exercises Saturday, Dec. 14. The undergraduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m. in Pruitt Gymnasium on the UWA campus. The graduate ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m., also at Pruitt Gymnasium. Presidential Receptions will be held prior to each ceremony and are open to all graduates and their guests at 8 a.m. and noon in the Bell Conference Center.

During Homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 12, the University of West Alabama announced its 2019 Homecoming Queen. Ma鈥橩iyah Hall and the Homecoming Queen鈥檚 court were nominated and elected by the UWA student body as the leading ladies of the week.

The University of West Alabama is partnering with an exchange program to bring two students from Germany to study at UWA. The program seeks families within a one hour driving distance of UWA鈥檚 campus in Livingston who wish to host a German student for the 2019-2020 school year. Anyone who is interested in serving as a host should sign up for the opportunity by June 28.

The University of West Alabama has announced nearly 500 outstanding undergraduate students named to the President鈥檚 List and the Dean鈥檚 List for the Spring 2019 academic semester. The President鈥檚 List gives recognition to undergraduate students with exceptionally high grades for the semester, those with grade-point averages of 3.80 or higher on at least twelve semester hours credit with no grade lower than a 鈥淐.鈥�

A group from the University of West Alabama explored the historic Fort Tombecbe recently to learn more about Sumter County鈥檚 French history. The tour was part of UWA International Programs Year of France series. A picnic on the grounds and tour of the archaeological site was led by site director Dr. Ashley Dumas.
