Health Science Athletic Training

Bachelor of Science, Track

The Athletic Training Track, part of UWA’s Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Comprehensive program, prepares students for competitive admission to graduate athletic training programs through a strong foundation in the health sciences. Students complete prerequisite coursework required by most Master of Athletic Training (MAT) programs while building knowledge in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, kinesiology, exercise science, and injury prevention. With flexible elective options, students can tailor their studies to meet the admission requirements of their preferred graduate programs, positioning them for continued success in athletic training and related healthcare professions.

AH200 Prevention, Care and Treatment of Injuries

3 Credits

Overview of athletic training profession with emphasis on the basic fundamentals utilized by the athletic trainer in prevention, recognition, care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries.

EX446 Biomechanics of Human Movement

3 Credits

Biomechanical concepts critical to assessment, description, and qualitative analysis of human movement in exercise, sport, and locomotive activities are studied. 

MH246 Introduction to Biostatistics

4 Credits

Introduction to basic statistical principles and their application in the sciences, especially the life sciences. Includes descriptive statistics, probability, simple hypothesis testing, binomial and Poisson distribution, analysis of variance, and regression and correlation.

Career Outlook

Athletic trainers play an essential role in preventing, evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating injuries for athletes and physically active individuals. While professional practice as a Certified Athletic Trainer requires completion of a graduate athletic training program, UWA’s Athletic Training Track provides the academic preparation needed to pursue that next step with confidence. Graduates are well positioned to continue their education and prepare for careers in schools, colleges and universities, professional sports organizations, hospitals, physician practices, military settings, performing arts organizations, and other healthcare environments where injury prevention and patient care are essential.
